Centre Calls Urgent All-Party Meeting Over Pahalgam Attack

New Delhi, 24th April 2025. The Indian government has convened an all-party meeting on Thursday to discuss the fallout of the terror attack in Pahalgam that left 26 people dead and dozens injured. According to official sources, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh are personally reaching out to political leaders to participate in this crucial dialogue.

The meeting, scheduled for 6 PM, comes in response to national outrage and rising political demands for accountability and strategic action.

India Downgrades Diplomatic Ties With Pakistan

On Wednesday, April 23, India took strong diplomatic steps following intelligence reports linking the Pahalgam attack to cross-border elements. These steps include:

  • Expulsion of Pakistani military attachés
  • Suspension of the Indus Water Treaty, which has been in place for over six decades
  • Immediate shutdown of the Attari land transit post
These measures signal a dramatic shift in India’s posture towards Pakistan and are expected to have far-reaching geopolitical consequences.

Congress Demands PM Modi to Chair Meeting

Reacting to the attack, Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh stated via Twitter:

“On the night of April 22nd itself, the Indian National Congress had asked for an All-Party meeting to discuss the fallout of the brutal Pahalgam terror attack and the targeted killings of so many tourists."

He emphasised the need for Prime Minister Narendra Modi to personally chair the meeting, urging the government to take political parties into confidence and forge a united national resolve.

National Unity Amid Crisis

As the country mourns the lives lost in Pahalgam, there is growing consensus across the political spectrum that India must respond with both strength and strategic unity. The all-party meeting is expected to shape India’s immediate policy response and long-term security framework in the wake of one of the deadliest attacks on civilians in recent years.
